This page explains what happens to data when you visit thenorthstarseahouses.co.uk. The site is a small brochure for a holiday cottage in Seahouses, Northumberland. It does not ask you to create an account, sign in, or submit a form, and it does not handle bookings or payments directly. Bookings are taken on Coquet Cottages’ own website, which has its own privacy policy.

Who we are

The site is run by the owners of The North Star cottage in North Sunderland, Seahouses, Northumberland, NE68, United Kingdom. If you have a question about this page or about data we may hold about you, get in touch through our booking partner, Coquet Cottages.

What we collect ourselves

Nothing directly. There are no contact forms, comments, accounts or cookies set by this website. We do not run advertising or remarketing tags.

Privacy-first analytics (Cloudflare)

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics with Real User Measurements (RUM) to understand how the site performs. This is a small JavaScript beacon that runs in your browser and sends performance information — for example, page load time and which page you viewed — to Cloudflare for processing.

  • It does not set any cookies and does not read or write to local storage, session storage or IndexedDB.
  • It does not track you across other websites.
  • Your IP address is used briefly to route the request, then discarded at the nearest Cloudflare data centre — it is not stored in Cloudflare’s analytics databases or logs.
  • It does not build a profile about you or attempt to identify you.

Because this processing uses no cookies or similar identifiers and does not single out individuals, we rely on our legitimate interest in understanding aggregate site performance under UK GDPR, and the data falls outside the PECR cookie consent rules. For more detail, see Cloudflare’s Web Analytics data documentation and Cloudflare privacy policy.

Hosting and security (Cloudflare)

The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which acts as our CDN and edge network. As part of delivering the page and protecting against attacks, Cloudflare processes your request metadata (IP address, browser user agent, referrer). Cloudflare acts as our data processor for this.

Things loaded from other services

A few parts of the page load resources from third parties. When that happens, those services will see your IP address and basic request information because your browser connects to them directly.

  • Google Fonts — the “Newsreader” typeface is served from fonts.googleapis.com. See Google’s privacy policy.
  • OpenStreetMap / Leaflet — the area map loads map tiles from OpenStreetMap. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
  • Instagram feed — the “From the cottage, lately” section embeds an iframe from Mirror, which displays our public Instagram posts. Mirror and Meta/Instagram will see the request.
  • Cottage photos — images are served from files.originalcottages.co.uk (our booking partner’s media host).
  • Booking links — the “Book” and “Check availability” buttons send you to coquetcottages.co.uk, which handles availability, payments and guest data under its own terms.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and objection regarding personal data held about you. Because this website itself does not store identifiable information about visitors, in practice these requests are most useful when directed to our booking partner (for booking records) or to Cloudflare (for delivery and analytics metadata). You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office if you think your data has been handled improperly.

Changes

If we change how the site collects or uses data, we’ll update this page and the “last updated” date above.
